SuitePad is a leading provider of in-room tablets in the hotel industry that raises digital guest communication in the hotel to a new level. Tilmann Volk and I founded SuitePad GmbH in Berlin in 2012 and we now have over 60 employees and over 1000 customers in 30 countries.

Our in-room tablets replace the traditional guest directory. In addition to general information about the hotel, the surrounding area, in-room F&B offers and choice of entertainment, it also serves as a booking tool for spa treatments and restaurant reservations. The devices include a built-in hotel TV remote control and hotel room telephone. Our product portfolio also includes a BYOD solution – Bring-Your-Own-Device, for using the digital guest directory on your own mobile devices.

We are particularly proud to be crowned the “Best Guest Room Tablet” and “Best Place to Work in Hotel Tech” at the Hotel Tech Awards 2020.

What changes have you observed in the hotel industry over the last 5 years with regard to your core business?

We watch digitization in the hotel industry very closely. What we’ve noticed is that the phases before and after the guest stay are already very heavily digitized. For a long time, the phase during the hotel stay led a shadowy existence, but this is where we see enormous potential and great possibilities for the hotel.

In addition, more and more hoteliers want to integrate the remote control, the hotel room telephone, and in-room controls on our SuitePads to help reduce the physical touchpoints for hotel guests. This is particularly meaningful during the current global pandemic.

How does your company react to the changing needs of the hotel industry? How do you adapt your product portfolio and communication to this?

Since the beginning of the corona pandemic, hotels have adapted their service towards a return on investment (ROI) more than usual. Therefore, in addition to guest satisfaction, this is a major focus. With SuitePads, both ROI and guest satisfaction goals can be achieved.

One of the most popular features, both with guests and hotels, is our ´Green Option´. During a longer stay, guests can use the SuitePad to cancel room cleaning on a daily basis and may receive a voucher for the bar or other in-house outlet in return. The hotel saves considerable sums of money on cleaning costs and this also benefits the environment.

Our customers are particularly successful when they use push messages on the SuitePads, which above all contribute to increasing sales.

Let’s take a look into the future: How do you think technology will affect your business and where do you see the greatest potential in your core business?

It will increasingly move in the direction of networked systems and technologies, each of which is first class in its field and ensures a smooth customer journey. The exchange of data between the systems plays a key role here.

In general, I also think that we will see a lot more in the area of customization. Imagine, for example, digital guest folders in the hotel room that do not show the same content for every guest but are tailored to each respective guest.

It is important for us as a technology provider to observe these developments in the market and to adapt and further develop our products and services accordingly – think from the market, act towards the market.
